OCADD offers a bi-weekly self-Advocacy support group that meets virtual.
In the “Learning Loft” self-advocates, parents/caregivers and members of the community come together to socialize, communicate, and just have fun. We talk, we play virtual games and
every other meeting we invite a guest speaker/s that will educate the group and their guests about various topics regarding disability, self-advocacy, etc.
Please join us to get to meet our self-advocates and their families/caregivers. We are also raising awareness of the intellectual and developmentally disabled population in our community. Community inclusion is a very important step in the awareness/acceptance process.
If you want to participate as a guest speaker or if you have other questions regarding this event please contact Christina Hastings, oterocountyadvocatesfordd@gmail.com, 575 921 2193.
The purpose for which Otero County Advocates for Developmental Disabilities is organized is
exclusively to promote awareness, training/education, self-advocacy, support employment
of, and inclusion for our intellectual and developmentally disabled community, as well as
to develop a resource center for families in need of services.
OCADD exists to empower and elevate differently abled individuals to have access
to programs and accommodations in order to live with a quality of life not available to
them without support. The goals include connecting intellectual and developmentally
disabled individuals of all ages, and their families, with access to all the community
resources available, and creating the resources needed to set them up with a
customized program that will optimize their success.
A primary focus will be teaching self-advocacy, life-skills at every age, and teaching parents/
caregivers to ensure safety and support.
OCADD is to be an accessible resource center for exceptional families and those with
intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The organization will promote acceptance and awareness for theses community members
through training's and corporate incentives when companies take steps to become more
inclusive to this population.
It will provide scholarships to individuals and their families to be able to attend workshops
and conferences to better themselves.
The organization will hold biweekly support groups, workshops and actively
distribute literature everywhere those with a diagnosis are likely to see it.
OCADD will actively promote its services on local radio and at community events.
The Community will be a visible presence through year-round fundraising efforts that
will integrate the special needs community with the general public.
