OTERO COUNTY FINANCE DEPARTMENT, Alamogordo, New Mexico is recruiting for a Payroll Technician.
Employment Status: Full-Time
Experience Required: Minimum of three (3) years of experience with payroll functions or bookkeeping. General clerical experience, including public contact, is desirable.
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Job Summary: To perform a variety of routine duties in support of the County’s payroll functions including the preparation of employee payroll, and to provide information and assistance to County employees and the general public.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Perform the employee payroll functions; process timesheets; calculate payroll; print checks and direct deposit; maintain payroll records; prepare statistical reports on payroll activities; make payroll changes as appropriate.
- Prepare periodic payroll reports as required by law; reconcile monthly insurance billings and other related billings pertaining to payroll.
- Perform records maintenance activities; maintain files for microfilm and/or scanning; ensure the adherence to confidentiality of personnel files and other related payroll files.
- Perform a variety of routine record keeping duties such as filing and maintaining ledgers, logbooks and bookkeeping records; research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
- Enter and update a variety of payroll data into the computer; type a wide variety of documents and forms; retrieve data as necessary; operate a printer and other computer peripherals; answer phone.
- Verify and review materials for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures.
- Contact outside agencies to acquire and/or provide information in regards to payroll, benefits or any other related issues.
- Process all Child Support and garnishment payments.
- Process all retirement and insurance payments.
- Other duties as required.

Salary: $17.00-$20.89 per hour DOE plus benefits package.
