The STEM Learning Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing existing STEM programs including Coaching the CHINS Robotic and Lego League Teams and other activities providing hands-on, authentic experiences which build scientific skills, fuel curiosity, and encourage students to develop their STEM identities. Additionally will assist PreK Coordinator to create developmentally appropriate STEM lessons. Duties include recruiting new team members, interviewing and placing participants in different roles based on their qualifications, and maintaining accurate participant and program records. In addition, the STEM coordinator is responsible for providing support for STEM meetings and analyzing data to modify curriculum and forms of assessment and sharing of best practices to better cater lesson plans to the interests of students.

This is a part time contract position working with youth. Hours required will be after school and weekends ranging from approximately up to 30 hours a month during peak season months of Jan - April to approximately up to 12 hours a month in off season.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a STEM related field
  • Experience working with youth
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based learning
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to provide exceptional customer service
  • Ability to travel to STEM competitions 2 to 4 times a year
  • Ability to pass a CYFD background check
  • Positive, flexible, and friendly
  • Independently driven team player
  • Current driver’s license and safe driving record for the past 5 years


Responsibilities:

Program Coordination

  • Maintain and continue to develop curriculum in STEM education
  • Ensure curriculum content is scientifically accurate and age-appropriate
  • Develop, create, purchase, and maintain program materials
  • Design weeklong STEM-related summer science camps (Potentially to develop)


Program Management

  • Foster working relationships and maintain clear communication with CHINS Administration, Program Facilitators, parents and community members
  • Coordinate program logistics
  • Proactively recruit students to participate in the program.
  • Assess student learning and evaluate the program’s success to monitor program effectiveness
  • Document student assessment, attendance, student, parent, and teacher survey data and maintain effective systems for tracking and evaluating data
  • Coordinate program logistics, instructional topics, and required teaching materials
  • Build program awareness through social media, web, and print materials in partnership with CHINS marketing staff
  • Provide monthly and annual program reports to present to the CHINS Board and community
  • Assist Executive Director to give presentations highlighting the implementation and impacts of the STEM program to audiences including prospective donors or grant providers, school district, or organization’s board of directors


Program Instruction

  • Design and prepare inquiry-based and engaging STEM-related lessons and learning units
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for students
  • Collaborate with PreK teachers to align STEM curriculum with their classroom instruction
  • Plan, prepare, and teach inquiry based and engaging science lessons and programs
  • Align activities with student interests and allow for flexibility in content week to week
  • Co-teach summer science camps for part of the summer camp season, focusing on STEM camps (Working towards this but we have not yet implemented)
  • Maintain a current knowledge of the evolving field of science and STEM education theory and trends, hands-on and inquiry-based education, and other pertinent educational philosophy and use this to continue to grow program
  • Become CPR/First Aide certified – available through CHINS trainings
Pay: $20/ Hour
