Documentation Specialist - Temporary 

 

Employment Status: Full-Time - Temporary – Not to exceed six months. 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Experience Required: One (1) year of responsible experience with mapping, Microsoft Excel, and Word.

Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Department: Road

Direct Supervisor: Road Shop Superintendent

Certification: This position requires a valid NM driver’s license.

 

Job Summary:  To determine actual Rights-of-Way and easements for each road Otero County by both manual and computer research of available county and state records.

 

 

Essential Job Functions

                                                                                                                                      

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

 

  • Accurately locating (GPS and road distance) and photographing all bridges, cattle-guards, culverts, and other drainage structures of any design, in any configuration, in or, under and over Otero County roads, keeping a manual mileage and time/date log of each road traveled and each structure photographed.
  • Developing and maintaining an inventory system of all information collected. 
  • Determining actual Right-of-Way and easements for each road in Otero County by manual and computer research of available county and state records. 
  • Working with Otero County GIS personnel and Otero County Road personnel to format, update, and publish the above information as part of the annual GIS Department’s Otero County Report made to NMDO, and for use by Otero County Road Department. 
  • Other specialized duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s) for Position

An employee in this class must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:

 

Knowledge

  • Must be proficient with laptops, mapping software, GPS cameras, handheld GPS units, and radios installed in vehicles. 
  • Must be proficient with software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to accurately read county road maps and county road descriptions to locate roads and devise a schedule and route for daily use. 
  • Must adhere to and conform to county rules and regulations regarding employment.

 

Skills

  • Strong written and oral communications and relational skills.
  • Follow and relay complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including computer terminal, related software programs, printer, calculator, fax, and copier.

 

Abilities

  • Work independently in the absence of direct and constant supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

Physical Demands

The following physical abilities are required: 

  1. Maintain physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy lifting.
  2. Will be bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  3. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  
  4. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment

Travel from site to site; construction site environment; exposure to dust, noise, toxic materials; work in inclement weather conditions.
