FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PRESS RELEASE
Thursday, May 11, 2023 - Alamogordo, NM – Alamogordo Public School District
Upgrades to safety and security, internal learning environments, playgrounds, and more are on the way thanks to the approval of the $15 million general obligation bond passed in Tuesday’s election.
The Alamogordo Public Schools is incredibly grateful to our community for passing the general obligation bond. This will allow APS to get right to work this summer on the important projects that will enhance the safety and security of our students and staff at many of our aging campuses. APS will be working on projects in the six areas of investment discussed during the campaign, including safety & security, indoor learning environments, outdoor learning environments, athletics, technology, and building systems.
Unfortunately, the two existing mill levies SB9 and HB33 that APS uses for ongoing facility maintenance, small infrastructure projects, and technology resources such as student chrome books, interactive panels, technology infrastructure, and more, did not pass. A comprehensive list of expenditures for the two mill levies for the past 4 years can be found on the APS special election website in the resources section at https://allin4ourkids.my.canva.site/#resources Mill levy funds cannot be used for salaries and currently bring in approximately $3 million annually through district property owners. Learn more on our website.
Acting Superintendent, Pam Renteria shared, “We are thrilled to begin improvements, create excitement, and invest in our community with the passing of the GO bond. Thank you to our community for your continued support of our APS students.”
Alamogordo Public Schools invites the community to stay connected and follow the progress of the GO bond projects as they are solidified and implemented, visit www.alamogordoschools.org
